English Dub Review: The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious “The Maid I Hired Recently Is Weird!?”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yuuri finds himself taking care of Lilith for once when she catches a cold.
Our Take:
My, have the tables turned for the suspicious maid. Lilith has been taking care of Yuuri for the past five episodes, but now it looks like she’ll be the one that needs to be taken care of. After getting caught in the rain, Lilith acts more strangely than before, leading Yuuri to conclude that she’s coming down with a fever. As far as I’m aware, there’s nothing suspicious about getting sick. So Yuuri takes on the role of the maid to take care of Lilith and help her with chores.
The first part of the episode showcases some further development between Yuuri and Lilith. While Yuuri is still suspicious of his maid’s behavior, he’s gradually becoming more trusting towards her and appreciates her for being by his side. Despite being out of context at times, especially Lilith’s seductive teasing, the episode continues the show’s unique representation of the relationship between a master and their servant through its charm and awkward humor.
The episode also has Yuuri and Lilith attending Tsukasa’s Halloween party, with Yuuri dressing up as a wizard. As for Lilith, she winds up dressing up as a dragon-girl maid, which is a suitable nod to Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. Sadly, this doesn’t make it a Halloween-themed episode, as nothing spooky happened during the party. However, the only scary thing that Fujisaki encountered was being dressed up as a princess for a photo shoot.
However, the real deal that got my interest peaked happens towards the end, with Lilith finally revealing her reasons for her suspicious behavior. Lilith has been hiding from her former employer, and the letters she received state that they’ve found her and ordered her to return. However, Yuuri won’t take no for an answer and wants her to be his only maid, leading him to hug Lilith for the first time.
Regardless of how discomforting the show is, the episode’s ending is a fitting way to cap off the show’s first six episodes. The bond between the master and his maid continues to grow, with Yuuri seeking to protect his new family member no matter the cost. As to who Lilith’s former master is, we don’t know for sure. But since Lilith has been hiding from them for so long, I can surely bet that this employer isn’t very pleasant to work for. So Yuuri would have to work extra hard to make Lilith stay, for better or worse.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
