English Dub Review: The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious “Not in My Textbook”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tsukasa invites Yuuri over for a discussion about love.

Our Take:
Love is in the air as we start the second half of this suspicious series. As far as things go, it’s pretty much what we expect, for better or worse. Considering how the last episode ended, it’s evident that Yuuri has grown more fond of Lilith despite her mysterious ways, yet he doesn’t know it. That is until Tsukasa comes along to tell him that he’s in love with his maid.
The episode’s first half consists of Yuuri on a journey to learn what love means. But, of course, his pondering concerns Lilith as she’s trying to tease her young master, and Yuuri doesn’t respond to her. Yuuri then decides to visit Tsukasa to know how love works. Unfortunately, Tsukasa isn’t as academic as the others, as her only way of teaching is through her light novels, which Fujisaki quickly confiscates. However, she insists that Lilith is happier when Yuuri’s around, which is as close to “being in love” as it can get.
The second half has Yuuri tackling a project for art class, which he uses as an opportunity to expose Lilith’s suspicious ways by sketching a drawing of her. However, this causes Lilith to worry that he means drawing her like one of those French girls. It’s short for drawing her naked, in case you’re wondering. However, Yuuri just wanted Lilith to do her natural pose like she does every day. Unfortunately, Yuuri begins to lose sleep due to his dissatisfaction with the drawing he wants to portray. So Lilith decides to help him by singing a lullaby Yuuri’s mother and somebody else used to sing. Luckily, it helps Yuuri get the sleep he deserves, although it does lead him to want Lilith to sleep beside him again. While Yuuri’s drawing still isn’t what he imagined, it earned him an award in art class, which is better than nothing.
I was already past the point where I asked myself why a concept like this exists, especially considering the age difference between the two characters. Afterwards, I’m at a specific phase where I’m still questioning its existence and getting some unexpected chuckles from its embarrassing scenarios. I suppose that’s better than being creeped out by it all the time. “Not in My Textbook” is that phase, especially with some comical moments that combine embarrassment with innocence, including Lilith’s suggestion that may have crossed the line for her. It’s best that you watch the episode to know what I mean.
