English Dub Review: The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious “Does the Young Master Like Pudding?”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Lilith becomes desperate to convince Yuuri that she is not suspicious.

Our Take:
It’s obvious at this point that Yuuri’s suspicions for Lilith have gotten a bit out of hand, and by that, I mean way out of hand. This week’s episode knows it, as we finally see Lilith attempting to make herself seem trustworthy to lower his concerns. Of course, it would’ve been a lot easier for Lilith if she had just explained the truth behind her arrival to Yuuri. But then the show would end quickly, and regarding the fans of the manga, we don’t want that controversy to spread like wildfire.
Instead, Lilith decides to play chess with him whenever he wants, while Yuuri suggests that he used to play chess with his father. Yuuri also remembers his mother making pudding for him while he and his father played chess, so Lilith offered to make him some when she saw him feeling unhappy. However, when Yuuri accepts the pudding without suspicion, Lilith begins to worry about his calm reaction. However, it turns out that Yuuri was figuring out how to invite her to his school’s open house.
After three episodes into the show, I was surprised to see this episode acknowledge Yuuri’s suspicions from Lilith’s perspective. It does offer the same structure as the previous chapters, with Yuuri accusing Lilith of her “suspicious” actions. However, the fourth episode gave its repetitive narrative a much-needed boost regarding the characters.
Along with some heartfelt flashbacks involving Yuuri and his parents, the episode further develops the friendship between Yuuri and Lilith through the school’s open house and Lilith’s humorous attempts to make herself trustworthy. Instead of wasting 23 minutes with constantly uncomfortable jokes and filler scenarios, the episode delivered an actual plot showcasing Yuuri’s grief over his parents’ death and Lilith’s determination to make her young master happy. As a result, “Does the Young Master Like Pudding” is a decent improvement over the previous episodes that finally offers something interesting in its seasonal plot. Hopefully, this means the show will be heading in the right direction in the later episodes.
