English Dub Review: Shoot! Goal to the Future “Left Leg”

Overview:

Kakegawa heads into their semi-final game without Tsuji. He’s a little busy getting a soccer lesson from a curious stranger.

Our Take:

It’s time for the semi-final game and Tsuji is nowhere to be found. He’s actually practicing by himself when a man starts talking to him and practicing with him. He seems odd, but he’s helpful. He teaches Tsuji how to shoot well with his left foot, which is a skill he’s been lacking in. After this session is over, Tsuji heads to the game.

He makes it in time too because the team is getting creamed. He makes it before the second half and Kurokawa is the first one who sees him. He apologizes for the article and Tsuji forgives him. He says he can’t forgive himself what he’s done in the past, but he wants to rejoin the team. It turns out Kamiya never actually submitted Tsuji’s resignation letter, so he’s never officially left the team. He also tells Tsuji that the stranger who practiced with him is a former member of the team. Tsuji plays in the second half and with his help, Kakegawa scores the win. Afterwards, he talks to his former teammate, Kokubo, and promises that Kakegawa is going to win this time.

This episode is an improvement from the previous two. There isn’t a lot of melodrama, so that’s a good start. The actual game is nothing special, but at least Kakegawa gets a feel good moment. I suppose it’s also a good thing that Kurokawa and Tsuji made up. I’m still not a fan of the characters, but it’s important that the two are on the same page. Overall, it’s a decent episode. Time will tell if Kakegawa will be able to win the whole tournament.
