English Dub Review: Shoot! Goal to the Future “Collapse”

Overview:

A member of the newspaper club wants to write an article about the Kakegawa pair: Kazama and Tsuji. Kurokawa gets jealous and ruins everything.

Our Take:

We get to see the backstory of how Kurokawa and Kazama met each other. Kurokawa feels that things have changed between them since Tsuji came along.

A newspaper club member wants to write an article about Tsuji and Kazama, but Tsuji doesn’t want to do the interview. Kazama does the interview instead, but Kurokawa is jealous of those two. He’s paired up with Tsuji on the field, but the two don’t work together well.

Kurokawa hates that it feels like him and Kazama have drifted apart. He blames Tsuji and goes to the reporter. An article is released that paints Tsuji in a selfish light. Kurokawa also tries to turn other team members on Tsuji, but to no avail.

Kazama and Tsuji talk to Kurokawa and he pretty much admits what he did. He tells Kazama he’s trying to protect him and he doesn’t think Tsuji is a good friend for him. Kazama doesn’t like that Kurokawa is trying to control his life. Tsuji hates seeing them fight, so he says he’ll quit the team so there won’t be any more tension.

In my honest opinion, this episode is abysmal. I already hated the melodrama in this show and this episode just ramps it up to 11. Kurokawa’s been acting weird for the past couple of episodes and now, we see why. It’s too bad he’s a boring character. Now, he’s acting out of character, being irrationally jealous, and controlling. He went from being boring to completely unlikable.

Tsuji saying he’ll quit would be more impactful if he hadn’t already resorted to that previously. Now the show is just repeating itself over and over again. It wasn’t a good idea the first time and it’s even worse now.
