English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Ring and Girlfriend”

The beginning of this episode almost crossed the line into hentai territory. That was one sloppy kiss and I bet if Kazuya hadn’t stopped her, Ruka was willing to take it a few steps further. But they were interrupted by grannie needing to go to the bathroom. Now imagine after an incident like that having your grandmother give a family ring to your fake girlfriend in front of your pseudo-real girlfriend who you just frenched. Just another day in the life of annoying protagonist Kazuya. To his credit, it seemed like he finally gathered the courage to tell everyone about him and Chizuru, but he was interrupted in a typical anime fashion.

Chizuru’s grandmother isn’t doing very well and hasn’t much time left. It’s not definitively stated by anyone but you can tell. This makes Kazuya want to tell everyone even more but Chizuru would like her grandmother to pass knowing she has someone which I understand but good lord what an annoying plot thread. Maybe if Kazuya would just say he really does love her and want to be with her then it’s up to her whether she feels the same way or not. If she does then boom no problem but no instead we keep getting the status quo somehow reset every single freaking week. Talk about garbage. Anyways, see you all next week.
