English Dub Review: Parallel World Pharmacy “The Story of a Certain Wicked Man”

Overview:

Farma learns that a terrible disease has been discovered and he tries to prevent it from spreading.

Our Take:

Bruno’s eldest son, Palle, is set to pay his family a visit. However, he delays the trip due to the discovery of a new disease. Farma gets some information about it and comes to the conclusion that the disease is the bubonic plague or black death.

Knowing this, Farma constructs a plan to prevent the plague from spreading. Ships from the island where the disease originated are coming for a merchant fair. Farma’s plan involves them having limited points of entry and their cargo must be inspected. Plus, Farma advises that people should kill rats and fleas on sight and boil their clothes. Farma questions whether his plan will be effective, but everyone else has faith in him.

We also see a dream, or more so a flashback, of Bruno and a rather crazy-looking man. We see this man towards the end of the episode too. Judging from his mannerisms and appearance, I’m assuming he has something to do with the plague.

This is a decent setup episode, but I don’t feel like there’s a whole lot happening. Farma developing his plan is important, but it’s not the most exciting thing the show has done. That’s alright because I’m sure the payoff will be satisfying in the end.
