English Dub Review: Parallel World Pharmacy “Influenza and the Dawn of a Pharmacy”

Overview:

A member of the guild takes his daughter to Parallel World Pharmacy. As a result, his position in the guild is at risk.

Our Take:

The pharmaceutist guild is hell bent on putting Parallel World Pharmacy out of business. Pierre, one of the guild’s members, has no choice but to go to that pharmacy. His daughter is sick and the doctor’s clinic is closed, so Farma offers his services. Farma tells Pierre his daughter has influenza and he gives him medicine to her.

After receiving such caring treatment, Pierre starts to question the guild’s practices. He knows that he may face terrible consequences, but he also knows the care the guild’s shops provide pale in comparison to Parallel World Pharmacy.

Pierre does speak up in support of Farma’s shop, but the guild master will hear none of it. He had to bury his child because nobles didn’t help him, so he despises all of them. He also doesn’t appreciate Pierre speaking up against the guild’s practices, so Pierre is removed from the guild. His shop is also destroyed as a result.

Farma sees the damage and apologizes for causing Pierre trouble. Pierre assures Farma that it’s not his fault. Pierre plans to move to a new country so he can continue being a pharmaceutist, but Farma offers him another option. He tells Pierre that he got permission to start a new guild and offers Pierre a position in it. Pierre opens up a new shop and it becomes Parallel World Pharmacy’s first partner.

Pierre only appeared in one or two scenes in the previous episode, but he gets his own episode here. I really like the character as a whole. He’s a caring husband and father, plus he knows when to speak up for what he believes is right. He may suffer consequences, but Farma steps in and helps him in his time of need. Other nobles might not to do this, but Farma isn’t an ordinary noble. That’s what more and more characters are finding out as the show progresses.

I’m glad that the second guild actually came to fruition and it already has a new member. Pierre is a great guy and I’m glad Farma helps him and his family. Farma is the model citizen and pharmaceutist. He cares more about people than he cares about money and status. The more I see of his good deeds, the more I appreciate this show.
