English Dub Review: Orient “A Matter of Trust”

Overview:

Naoe Kanetatsu of the Uesugi Bushi is facing off against Inukawa Seiroku of the Obsidian Eight. But how can he hope to defeat someone whose power seems to be inflicting physical trauma at will?

Our Take:

As this arc gets going it seems we are in for some typical shounen escapades. Which is both a good and bad thing in my opinion. Good because it’s comfortable, easy, and we get it. Plus, the power system is unique enough to make it interesting. Sure magical sword powers aren’t entirely unique but the way Kitetsu blades work is different enough from how Zanpakuto works in Bleach to not feel like a rip-off. Mainly because Kitetsu is more based on everyone using teamwork and using their blade energy. What makes it somewhat bad is that it doesn’t really feel all that different from a typical shounen, I know that’s the demographic but it is slightly disappointing.

There were two and a half fights, chock-full of flashbacks. Lots of obstacles were overcome but luckily no power of friendship just yet. The next fight will be a bit more interesting because Inukai has seemed unbeatable up till now so we will have to see how things go. But I feel like our heroes will come out on top one way or another. Week two of no Michiru…
