English Dub Review: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! “Truly Unusual Situations”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
A dragon is a formidable opponent. That’s precisely why Yuji needs to get up close and personal to fight it with… a dagger!?
Our Take:
The battle is officially upon us as the guild prepares to fight to protect the village from the vicious Blue Dragon. However, the members are left without a divine emissary, the only solution to defeating the dragon. Luckily, they have an alternative that could help them turn the tide of the battle: a sage and his group of slimes. Oh, and a powerful dagger that increases focus for his magic to make the fight easier.
This is another episode that puts Yuji’s skills in action, as he goes off on his own to slay the dragon before it brings harm to the town. While the battle didn’t last for 10 minutes, it’s a well-paced and vibrant sequence that displays its animation in Yuji’s magic and attacks, especially his finishing blow. Like the one in its first episode, the action scenes aren’t anything too unique regarding the style and high-stakes dilemmas. However, that doesn’t make them even less enjoyable to watch.
Following the battle, Yuji leaves for the town of Ricaardo since he’s drawing too much attention to himself, including Rayard, who suspects him of defeating the dragon himself. During his quest, Yuji learns from Dryad that the dead dragon has sprouted mushrooms around its corpse, later revealed to be “Dragon Grace”. Fortunately, the good thing about these mushrooms is that they can be used to make potions that’ll benefit well for Yuji. Dryad makes the red potions to increase sage magic and the blue potions to restore depleted magic, or as I would like to call them in RPG talk, ethers.
While this is happening, the episode offers another flashback of Yuji’s earlier days in the RPG-based world. This time, it features his first encounter with Dryad and how he saves her and her forest from a crystal carried by an unidentified person. The show’s flashbacks continue to work as a tool for its nonlinear narrative, which explores Yuji’s origin without breaking the pace of his current predicaments. “Trying Out a Party” showcased how Yuji tamed his slimes and gained his Sage title, and now we have this episode displaying how he first met Dryad. Now the only question remaining is how he first encountered Proudwolf.
Afterwards, Yuji and the others ran into the Village of Messias while traveling through a thick fog. Naturally, they’re suspicious of its villagers, and they have the right to be. First off, the villagers greeted them with weird smiles on their faces. Second, they appeared to be working with an unknown person to retrieve the Dragon Grace.
But, of course, that’s not the only problem that Yuji needs to worry about, as he witnesses the town of Ricaardo mysteriously covered in the snow upon arrival. From the looks of things, this village doesn’t seem to be celebrating this weather change with Christmas decorations and festivities. Luckily for them, Yuji’s arrival could be what they need to solve this strange wintery pandemic.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
