English Dub Review: Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun “Concealment”
Overview:
Riko continues searching for her friends and she comes across somebody while doing so.
Our Take:
Riko meets one of the three great sages, but they only have a brief conversation. Riko asks the lady who works at the cafeteria to teach her their language. She agrees and Riko picks it up pretty easily. Riko asks her if she knows where her friends went. She directs Riko towards a pit that the villagers can’t enter. They can’t make it to the bottom, but she says Riko should be fine.
Riko, Meinya, and Maaa enter the pit and they come across a human. She goes by Vueko and she was a member of the Ganja. She tells Riko that she’s been confined in the pit because she opposed the village’s formation. Riko frees her, but only if she helps her find Reg and Nanachi. Small note: Maaa is a villager and she enters the pit. She gets sick, but she’s fine otherwise.
Vueko brings Riko to a location that she warns her about. Riko has to go in without Vueko, but she’s fine with that. Riko finds Nanachi, but she won’t wake up. She sold herself to Belaf in exchange for Mitty. He lets her decide which parts of her body to exchange for Nanachi.
We also see Reg in this episode. He’s trying to find his way back to the village, but he gets attacked. Faputa’s robot comes to his rescue and helps him back to the village. Reg asks him a lot of questions, but he doesn’t have the answers to any of them.
This is an interesting episode. I like seeing Riko learn the language the villagers speak in order to communicate with them better. I also enjoyed finally seeing Vueko interact with Riko. She’s been spliced in sparingly throughout the episodes up to this point, so it’s nice to see her actively become a part of the story.
I remember Belaf’s name from being in the ganja too. I’m assuming he’s the same character, but he already seems intimidating. He’s also manipulative in his dealings with Nanachi. Last week, I was confused as to how Mitty was still around since Reg incinerated her. It turns out Belaf wanted to buy Mitty from Bondrewd, but Bondrewd refused. As a result, Bondrewd made a reproduction of Mitty. I would assume Nanachi would have known this, but sometimes emotions get the best of you.
I’m learning a lot more about the characters and the world. This episode does a good job at progressing the story and I want to see where it goes from here.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
