English Dub Review: Lycoris Recoil “More haste, less speed”

Overview

Chisato reluctantly went to DA Headquarters for a health checkup and physical fitness test. When Takina heard, she decided to tag along to make a direct request for reinstatement at DA. With Chisato, Takina negotiates, but their commander will hear none of it. Moreover, her ex-partner Fuki is teaming up with a new companion…

Our Take

Given how messed up the D.A. members are, I’m surprised there aren’t more rogue Lycoris with how unsupportive the main organization is to their own members. In combination with their desensitization to violence and how grossly Immature their members are within their toxic working environment. The commander doesn’t seem to want to budge on letting Takina back in D.A. while Only Chisato stood up for her. Also, the commander is the ugliest person I think I have ever seen in this show and gives off masculine Janet Reno vibes.

Speaking of which, the D.A. Commander definitely scapegoated Takina. They get hacked and instead of investigating how since it’s supposed highly advanced computer within their HQ, Takina gets blamed? What horrible people. I wouldn’t mind if Chisato turned on them at this point, though she’s basically making use of their resources without being tied down. So if nothing else she seems to be sticking it to them a little bit.

Overall, this mostly excelled as a character-driven episode centered around Takina coming to terms with her supposed “wrongdoing” back when she was with the D.A. And Chisato’s heart-to-heart talk with her was effectively executed but also gives an air of mystery to the incident that got Chisato kicked out, to begin with. What really sold me on the drama of this episode was the excellent banter between the four girls in front of the Commander in their “Mock Battle”. Of course, the best moment is that wholesome hug between Takina and Chisato.

At the time of this review, I recently had to quit my physical job as a cashier due to unfair working conditions, poor management, and moments of unwarranted mistreatment which I felt were unprofessional and uncalled for. But the phrase “There are things to be gained by losing something” felt thematically relevant in my current situation, and reminded me not to sell myself short when it comes to my future place of work…
