English Dub Review: Lupin III Part VI “Two Terrible Ladies”

Overview

When a con artist friend of Fujiko’s named Amelia proposes a foolproof plan to rip off a cult, it sounds almost too good to be true… but there’s more to Amelia’s story than meets the eye…

Our Take

Given that Fujiko was nowhere to be found or mentioned within last week’s episode, it would make sense we’d have her in her own solo adventure of sorts. With a one-shot that pauses the “Tomoe” story arc a bit with an episode guest written by Ayumi Shimo whose track record mostly involved writing scripts for Tokusatsu shows which in a nutshell are precursors to Power Rangers.

There are even two weird twists with one of them being something Fujiko figured out in regards to her longtime friend Amelia who sometimes spouts a specific name that seems to get Fujiko on her good side as they infiltrate the building of a corrupt CEO named Greyson, who shares a history with the two ladies that ends up also having an unexpected payoff.

Overall, while not one of the strongest one-shot episodes it was still pretty decent. I thought Amelia was likable enough, and the plot was rather typical but fun. However, I did wish that they’d emphasized a bit more on the conflicting personalities of Fujiko and Amelia but it still remained a fun episode. I should also mention the standouts of this episode’s Dub were primarily Brittany Cox voicing Amelia and D.C. Douglas recycling his sinister yet smooth-talking Wesker voice from the Resident Evil games and Yoshikage Kira from Jojo: Diamond is Unbreakable playing Greyson which is serviceable for in terms of charismatic villain performances. With 4 episodes left, I Hope we’ll get back to this “Tomoe” plot soon, as I’m intrigued enough to see what direction it could possibly go.
