English Dub Review: Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout “A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and a Squid Fire”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
In a strange village where the people worship a giant squid as a god, Jinguji searches for Tachibana, who has been abducted to become a sacrifice, and catches sight of Rue, the elven Premier, who had been a candidate for the sacrifice. Jinguji forms an agreement with Rue for the purposes of defeating the giant squid with its demands for beautiful maidens, and suggests a bold plan to accomplish the feat.

Our Take:
It looks like Tachibana’s beauty got herself in a pickle yet again, as she’s about to be sacrificed by a town full of squid-obsessed people. To whom, you may ask? It’s a giant talking squid that only eats gorgeous women. One must wonder why everything in this world is a pervert for beautiful young maidens. Telolilo was able to live to see another day, but that didn’t help much with her goal to be more attractive than Tachibana. So she challenges Tachibana to see who’s more beautiful, which ends exactly the way I imagined.
As a result, Telolilo was forced to form a temporary alliance with Jinguji and the driver to find and kill the enormous squid. Unfortunately, Telolilo became the squid’s bait as part of Jinguji’s plan. It eventually worked, with Telolilo saving Tachibana from being the squid’s meal and cooking the monster alive. However, it isn’t without a couple of setbacks.
Even though Telolilo’s psychotic and obsessive personality may appear as one-noted, she still provides a few humorous moments to elevate the show’s comical mishaps and her Looney Tunes-like misfortunes. One of them is her obsessing over the taste of squid, whose flavor lasts a lifetime. But, of course, there’s also Telolilo’s over-the-top reaction to seeing Tachibana at the beginning of the episode that still got me chuckling.
Amid the rescue mission, the episode also emphasized the essential relationship between Tachibana and Jinguji, given the situation, aside from them making amends. While Jinguji attempts to fish the squid out of the water, he realizes he is losing his strength despite being in perfect shape. However, when he finds Tachibana in danger of being attacked by a group of angry women, Jinguji regains his strength and hurls the squid out of the water. It was later revealed by Vizzd and Kalm, who watch from afar, that Jinguji loses his power whenever he’s away from Tachibana, highlighting Jinguji’s role as Tachibana’s weapon. So it looks like the two friends will have to stay together if they want to complete their task alive.
“Squid Fire” starts the season’s second half with plenty of laughs and intrigue in the character dynamics. This isn’t surprising, given how much I’ve enjoyed the isekai series since the first episode. Telolilo stands as one of the episode’s highlights regarding the humor despite her one-note personality. Although, it looks like we won’t see her again for a while since she’ll be busy running the village as its new chief.
