English Dub Review: Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway: “Yearning”
Overview: Sayu’s (Jill Harris) past rears it ugly head, whether she likes it or not, and Yoshida (Alex Hom) delves into his reasoning for helping her as well as his past love.
Our Take: Gotou and Mishima discuss Yoshida and his new roomie. Gotou’s more mature view in letting the chips fall where they may versus Mishima’s pushback in wanting to make their feelings known and fight shows how different their outlooks are on matters of the heart. Mishima wanting Yoshida’s phone number and him not feeling he is worth communicating with demonstrates how he downplays his own self-worth. Mishima understanding Yoshida’s more selfless tendencies with him pacifying her energetic self and heated outbursts lends itself in showing how good their chemistry is. Mishima revealing her feelings to Yoshida will be intriguing in how it affects their work and personal relationship moving forward, not that he seems very interested in her. It is also clever as it is a means of showing how he has changed since his high school days, especially in his chat with Sayu in their apartment. It is also a thought-provoking issue for Yoshida in him contemplating that he helped Sayu solely for his own selfishness rather than kindness where they may be one in the same.
Organizing his stuff, Sayu happens upon his yearbook and the existence of his ex-girlfriend. Her previous criticisms of him in being too clingy is a good catalyst in how he has changed and tries to belittle himself, distancing himself slightly as opposed to getting too attached in his interactions with Mishima.
Yoshida is not the only one dealing with his past as Sayu deals with her past making a resurgence too. The strange man begins staking out her store only for it to be her older brother looking for her. Sayu, cognizant of how reality comes-a-knocking when it feels like, not when it is most convenient, makes how she will face her own demons all the more interesting.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
