English Dub Review: Girlfriend, Girlfriend “The Girlfriends’ Challenge”

Our Take

Like mom, like daughter, Saki’s mom despite not knowing the whole situation with Naoya and this 3-way thing he and the other two have going on with Saki and Nagisa is surprisingly sex-positive in giving some encouragement to her daughter about doing the deed with Naoya. Even to the point of getting Saki a Playboy Bunny Girl-like outfit to entice Naoya. As for Nagisa, she ends up wanting dibs on that whole Cosplay kink he and Saki have, but this time with a maid costume instead that strikes Naoya on a different level.

As for the 2nd half of the episode, Mirika and her reactions to Naoya’s words were easily the highlights. It’s obvious that she’s in love, but of course, Naoya is struggling to get the message across that he’s content with just Saki and Nagisa at his side despite how weird this 3-way relationship he has going on has mixed results…

It’s hard to believe Saki’s mom is very supportive of Saki living together with Naoya even if she doesn’t know everything. The cosplay scenes were at least fun even if I had to turn on the subtitles setting in certain parts of the anime due to random text bubbles/boxes written that weren’t translated just for context. As for Rika, her passionate talk along with revealing her backstory to Naoya on the rooftop was really sweet and adds some likability to her character despite her previous behavior. Ironically, Naoya wants to help Rika find a boyfriend, but the way he praises her just makes her fall in love with him even more. Predictably, given the twist at the end, I have a feeling this is far from over…
