Review: Interrogator – “Everyone Dies”

“The First Rule” was an episode that set up an impossible bar for any episode of the final act of Interrogator to live up to. It was perfection. It pushed the boundaries of what M2 Animation can produce. Let’s see if “Everyone Dies” carries the stereotypical “after perfection” letdown, or if it bucks the trend and keeps the tires going.

“Everything Dies” I’m glad to see that all of the pieces from the series are finally starting to come together a bit to start putting a bigger picture together. The flashbacks with Bellona, Heroth’s plans in town, and pretty much converging onto one another again. The big takeaway, however, is the reemergence of Heroth.

That’s both a reason to watch, and a reason to skip. I’m finally hitting the point with Interrogator that I don’t care anymore about extended breaks or wanting to see some action. I’m hooked on the story. I’m hooked on world. I’m hooked on how much of a screw up Jurgen is. There is literally nothing at this point that can make me not want to not finish this show up.

There isn’t a whole lot to recap. We got a bigger snapshot of the flashback with Bellona and Jurgen, a look back into the wreckage that was Jurgen’s psychic maelstrom from “The First Rule”, including what seems to be Baldur’s carcass. However, the money shot for “Everyone Dies” is the woman who helped Jurgen deal with Heroth’s big metal bodyguard. Now, I’m almost certain that Bellona is showing up by the end of the season. However, I can’t pick whether we just saw her, or we’re going to see her at this death between Heroth and this mystery party.

There was not much to talk about this week. “Everything Dies” didn’t suffer from that stereotypical lull, but it did accomplish a good setup for what’s to come. After “The First Rule,” we need slow down episode. We need exposition to calm things down, and get back into the worldbuilding. While there wasn’t an explosion of senses, there was more than enough to keep me interested. Everything from the first second to the credits build on top of each other. There was nothing not needed, and everything felt in place.

The momentum is still going, with no signs of slowing down.
