English Dub Review: The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious “Gojouin Tsukasa Is Precocious”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tsukasa, a classmate of Yuuri’s, is concerned for his well-being after having lost his parents.

Our Take:
We’ve spent the last two episodes with only the young wealthy orphan and his suspicious yet gorgeous maid. They provided some embarrassingly enjoyable moments in a single location, but they also got a bit tedious at times. Luckily, the third episode switched things up by having more characters join in on the awkward fun.
One of them, in particular, is Tsukasa Gojouin, Yuuri’s classmate who’s a big fan of romance manga and novels. She attempts to help Yuuri following the death of his parents but struggles to get his attention. When Tsukasa overhears Yuuri discussing Lilith’s beauty, she suddenly believes there’s a taboo relationship between him and his maid. Regarding her far-fetched yet joyous reaction to this, I’m still the only person who finds it a bit uncomfortable to witness. Also, how the heck did Yuuri and Lilith not hear Tsukasa’s loud panicked breathing from behind the tree?
We’re also introduced to Tsukasa’s butler Fujisaki, who happens to have a connection to Lilith as they both recognize each other. Fujisaki would later serve a role in driving Lilith home while picking up more manga for Tsukasa. Unfortunately, it doesn’t showcase more on how Lilith and Fujisaki know each other, so I’m assuming we might get some answers in the later episodes. Well, if Fujisaki doesn’t resign due to Tsukasa imagining her in a maid outfit.
The episode still struggled with the repetitiveness of its running gags, especially when Yuuri commented on Lilith’s fussing being similar to how his mother fussed over his father. It’s not without a few amusing moments involving Tsukasa and Fujisaki despite the former’s voice in the English dub, but the jokes still pose a risk of being more awkwardly off-putting than funny. However, I did enjoy the episode’s second half because of Lilith.
The second half has Yuuri unexpectedly being left home alone when Lilith heads out to find a specific fish for dinner without her cell phone. After being gone for so long, Lilith finds Yuuri crying from being left alone for hours, and he accuses her of placing a curse on him to miss her. Lilith then playfully admits to bewitching him as a way to congratulate him for coping without her. The episode showed how Lilith’s playful teases paid off in helping Yuuri grow as an adult and cope with his loneliness. This was another part of the show where it offers some character development amid its series of sitcom-like scenarios, and hopefully, it won’t be the last.
