English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Birthday and Girlfriend”

Overview:

Kazuya tries to clear the misunderstanding Chizuru is under, all while enlisting Sumi’s help to get her a fitting birthday present.

Our Take:

I am convinced that Sumi is the one saving grace of this show. But since it’s a harem show that means she probably has a thing for Kazuya so something must be wrong with her. Though admittedly Kazuya is a little bit better when he is around Sumi but he’s still annoying. Honestly, Sumi is wise beyond what she presents. We think she is just trying to show Kazuya a good present to get Chizuru but it turns out she is trying to teach him a lesson as well.

Sumi somehow knows that Chizuru is working as a power ranger in a kid’s show. Not like on tv but a stage play type of thing. It’s how she gets to practice for acting and I think it’s super cool. Chizuru has her issues but ultimately I think she is a cool character. The problem with that is that no matter who ends up “winning” this harem situation none of them will feel like winners because their prize is Kazuya. He has a lot more growing to do before he can reliably be with anyone.
