English Dub Review: Orient “Memories of Stone”

Overview:

Two of the Obsidian Eight are assaulting the Uesugi castle with Yamata no Orochi, while a third member kidnaps Musashi and tries to convince Michiru to kill him.

Our Take:

There are going to be some spoilers for this episode because I have to go into just how heart-wrenching this one was. But I’ll get the non-spoilery stuff out of the way first. Inukai seemingly killed Uesugi but as you know in anime, if you don’t see the death, it likely didn’t happen. The castle was attacked but that situation at least seems hopeful.

Musashi finally faced off with Michiru’s father, in front of her. Michiru begged him to not kill Musashi, that there must be another way to free the Obsidian Goddess, and it looked like her plea worked. But unfortunately, he is just too evil. He turned Michiru to stone, which led me and Musashi to believe she was killed. But no, what he did was much worse. He eventually released her from her stone prison and she didn’t even know who Musashi was. She was rooting for her father to kill Musashi! It was tough to watch. But she did remember eventually and defended Musashi, but now she is in her father’s clutches. This has grown to be one of my favorites that I look forward to each week.
