English Dub Review: Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout “A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and an Angry Elf”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tachibana and Jinguji have managed to destroy the bandits’ hideout, but the resulting fire has destroyed the elven forest. Seeing that their forest has been burned to the ground, the elven Premier, Rue, flies into a rage. Driven to jealousy by Tachibana’s beauty, Rue attacks Tachibana and Jinguji, intending to kill them. But it proves utterly ineffective against Jinguji…
Our Take:
With one problem solved, another rises to cause trouble for Tachibana and Jinguji. I’m willing to believe this will be a trend for the rest of the season. If it is, then I won’t mind because this series has done well in providing some entertainment in its kooky concept so far.
Last week’s episode concluded with the two friends accidentally burning the forest after defeating the bandits. This incident caught the attention of an elf chieftess named Telolilo Lilili Lu (Suzie Yeung), who happens to be their next opponent during their quest to defeat the Demon Lord. However, that’s not the only reason the elf is fuming with rage. She’s also angry at them for killing the forest guardian and is threatened by Hinata’s beauty. As a result, Telolilo goes on a rampage to kill the “heroes” so she can become the only beautiful woman in the world.
The episode’s first half focuses solely on the confrontation between the two friends and Telolilo, with the humor consisting of Jinguji refusing to apologize to Telolilo for his actions. The only reason is that the elf chief and her entourage are the worshippers of the Goddess of Love. So since Jinguji is still angry at the Goddess for what she did to him and Tachibana, he wants nothing to do with anyone associated with her. But still, it wouldn’t be much of an issue for them if he just apologizes.
Afterwards, the second half shifts its focus to only Tachibana and Jinguji, with them resting and eating the guardian’s meat. Unfortunately, their relaxation is interrupted by a drunk Tachibana and a man-eating plant. Due to Tachibana’s body change, he gets quickly drunk, resulting in her stripping herself, causing Jinguji to get charmed by her beauty once again. Like in the previous two episodes, the characters’ chemistry in episode three remains the driving force of the series regarding the comedy. However, it didn’t overshadow some of their character depth, with a flashback showing the young friends playing a game and Tachibana being angry for having a girl’s name, which explained why he had Jinguji’s game character be named after a woman.
The third episode of Life with an Ordinary Guy continues to provide solid entertainment in the main characters’ chemistry and the show’s bizarre take on the isekai genre. While the humor is a tiny step down from the previous episode, it still gathers enough laughs to carry this episode forward. It also serves as a decent introduction for Telolilo, who might become a constant threat to our heroes in the later episodes, especially since Jinguji severed her ponytail with a stone. Remember, kids, never make a girl mad by ruining her hair, especially a girl elf.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
