English Dub Review: Laid-Back Camp “The Outdoor Activities Club and the Solo Camping Girl”

Overview

The Outdoor Activities Club plans its first trip, but they do not have the right sleeping bags for the cold weather. Trying to cut costs, the club members try wrapping the summer sleeping bag in foil, bubble wrap, and cardboard, and ultimately decide to each purchase a winter sleeping bag online. Meanwhile, Rin gets her motorcycle license and goes on a solo camping trip in Nagano…

Our Take

On a consistent level, the show continues to be relaxing yet fun. Nadeshiko, Aoi, and Chiaki preparing for their camping trip had many funny moments such as packing Chiaki into what turned out to be a shipping container. Though for some strange reason, vultures begin to increase in numbers in their school as they worked on insulation was weirdly out of place. Did the vultures think that Chiaki would die? If anything it hilariously clashes with the lighthearted atmosphere this show’s going for.

Meanwhile, Rin, always prepared something far step ahead and better than her laid-back camp experience. She even did a little part-time work to cover up her expenses and even get a driver’s license for better and fast driving. Man, what a nice effort she got there, as a solo camper. And the rustic cafe that Rin visits in Nagano looked like a very cozy little place.

Overall, another sweet, hilarious, and relaxing episode. I’m glad we’re now getting to see the Outdoor Camping club “in action”. The narration is fun, but also relaxing, with new places to get to know views and places to be appreciated. And the dynamic use of backgrounds and scenarios, in combination with the down-to-earth tone of the interactions, seems to be where the wholesomeness shines the most. Outdoor Club’s makeshift solution to sleeping during cold winter nights also gave me a good laugh. But above all, it works, because everything in this anime is taken in the right direction, especially the funny ending with a video message that Rin sends to Nadeshiko.
