English Dub Review: Laid-Back Camp “Caribou-Kun and Lake Yamanaka”

Overview

Chiaki, Aoi, and Ena buy new camping gear and set out to go camping at Lake Yamanaka. Meanwhile, Rin decides to climb up the peak, where she is rewarded with a lovely view, before finding a spot to cook some pasta…

Our Take

Visiting the hot springs in winter must be nice. Still, it was funny seeing Rin use that as her motivator though. She not only got her license, but she made a 150km trip to her chosen campsite which is quite ballsy of her.

I also found it funny how the “fried eggs” completely won them over there. For her first-ever solo journey, Rin really did well at riding so far. At least Rin and Nadeshiko managed to catch the view of the city from their respective sides despite the hot springs setback.

Overall, it was nice to see the contrast between the two camps. The trio in the campground and Rin up on the scenic overlook. The detailed recipes are nice. Who doesn’t want to try both? Sad to say, it is far too snowy around here to have a decent winter camp. It’s possible, of course, but one will have to dig to set up a tent. Nadeshiko’s brief walk through the winter woods at night was visually stunning. If there’s anything bad about this episode itself, it would It’s that for a series that seemed to enjoy animating tiny moments like cooking, setting tents and campfires, etc. I think this episode abused sequences of still shots despite how grandiose they all looked. Other than that, there wasn’t that much memorable comedy other than one of the characters saying out loud she “peed a little” from a jump scare.
