English Dub Review: Don’t Hurt Me, My Healer! “Despite the terrible time he’s been having…”
Overview:
Alvin and Carla come face to face with a mushroom monster.
Our Take:
This episode is pretty simple. Alvin and Carla find a mushroom monster and get in a “fight” with it. The monster is very weak, but so is Alvin. Not only that, but Carla continues to show how useless of a healer she is. She can’t even cast simple spells properly. After all is said and done, Altargaia the mushroom monster, joins their party.
Like I said, the episode is pretty simple. Most of it takes place in the same exact spot. The reason is because the characters can’t decide if they want to fight or be friends. Alvin and Carla can’t decide if they want to eat the mushroom monster or let it go. The whole episode feels inconsistent with its tone. Especially the scene where Carla acts like she has a conscience, but quickly goes back on that. I know this was just meant to be a joke, but it was presented in a much more serious manner than just about anything else in the episode.
I also noticed an inconsistency at the very beginning. Alvin says he’s never seen Carla perform a healing spell. Technically, that’s not wrong because he didn’t see her do it. However, it was established that she healed him after he got clobbered by Mostly Bear. Therefore, she can use healing magic to some degree. She’s just very incompetent.
Alvin’s no better. I want to have more sympathy for him, but he’s really pathetic. He keeps losing to these weak monsters and I’m wondering how he’s even survived this long. The more I think about it, the more I realize Carla has a point. I still don’t like her, but some of the things she says about Alvin are actually spot on.
I’ve also slowly been enjoying more of the banter between Alvin and Carla. It seems it gets a couple more chuckles out of me each episode. That being said, most of the jokes still drag on for far too long. Some of which, I didn’t even find funny to begin with.
There ‘s a little bit of a moment where it seems Alvin and Carla are growing a little bit of a bond. I’m not excited about it, but I’m sure they’ll be a little more chummy by the end of the season. I’m not excited about it because so far, it doesn’t really feel like it makes sense. We’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m glad there’s a new member joining the party. Altargaia didn’t do much in the episode and I don’t know how much the character has to offer. However, it’s a start and I hope we get more and better characters real soon.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
