English Dub Review: A Couple of Cuckoos: “I want to talk about now.”
Overview: Spurred on by Sachi’s (Bryn Apprill) jealousy of Hiro (Amanda Lee), Nagi (Nicholas Andrew Louie) is worried when his little sister begins becoming more irritable and even wants to transfer to his and Erika’s (Lindsay Sheppard) school.
Our Take: Sachi continues to be an annoying, pain in the ass of a sister and…that is about it really. If anything, it is becoming progressively worse in Nagi taking notice of her erratic behavior which hopefully means we get some actual development from her, eventually, of course because it didn’t come around this episode.
In her stalking of Hiro, along with Erika, her reaction to discovering she is absolute perfection is much too juvenile and crude in just straight up wailing on Nagi like a three year old. Not to mention beforehand criticizing his self-esteem in going after someone like her. To some, that may be what is most attractive about her. However, she is too vexing most of the time with her immaturity seemingly being one of her few character traits. It is especially irritating when this has not progressed her feelings in admitting to liking Nagi or wanting something more than just a sibling relationship.
Checking out Nagi and Erika’s school with Hiro, and eventually having a word with her in private, it remains intriguing as to what they briefly discussed that will undoubtedly be revealed later down the line. The geeks breaking the fourth wall in understanding Nagi’s harem plight is unexpected, ridiculously charming and a good bit of foreshadowing at the problems he will run into in juggling multiple women. With Sachi wanting to transfer to an expensive school, comes with a lot of expenses that serve as the hurdle she must overcome. However, little did she know that the real challenge would be her parents selling their shop to pay for it. It makes for a hilarious heated fight but ends on a heartfelt note in Erika reminding them what is important and that there are alternate options. With Sachi committed to transferring, hopefully her close proximity will actually advance her romantic narrative with Nagi as opposed to being a frustrating one.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
