English Dub Review: The Executioner and Her Way of Life “The Daughter of a Lost One”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Manon reveals a startling connection to Menou’s mentor and an even more startling power, but she’s far from the greatest danger lurking inside Libelle… or even inside herself.

Our Take:
It didn’t take us long to expose Manon’s devious plot involving the monstrine substance. Unfortunately, our troubles are far from over since we have three episodes left in the season. The last episode concluded with Akari seeking answers from Manon just as Libelle Island became overwhelmed by the authorities. “The Daughter of a Lost One” continues where it left off by exposing more secrets and dangers that continue to overshadow Menou’s quest to kill Akari.
For starters, Manon tells Akari that she received word that Akari has been regressing the timeline multiple times to change the future. The person who told Manon about this was none other than Pandemonium, who’s actually the young girl Manon used to produce monstrine. To make things even more bizarre, the girl is inside Manon for some reason.
The episode also reveals some more insight into Manon, who reveals that her mother is a Lost One. Considering that she explained her mother getting killed by Flare a while back, this is far from a massive shocker. However, since Manon doesn’t have a Pure Concept, she plotted to obtain taboo power to force the Faust to kill her, so she could use her death to sacrifice herself to summon Pandemonium.
I must point out that “The Daughter of a Lost One” has to be the weirdest and most gross-out episode this show has to offer. Part of that is due to the violence and Pandemonium’s creepy personality. The episode continues to showcase the show’s entertaining action sequences, with Menou battling a monstrine-infused Manon Libelle and ripping her arm off with a Gale spell. While it’s pretty brief like the previous scenes, it still represents Menou as a fearless threat to her adversaries.
Then, we have Pandemonium, also known as the real antagonist of the season. She’s also known as the stuff of nightmares regarding her frightening persona and Pure Concept. Like Akari, Pandemonium has a Pure Concept that renders her unkillable. No matter how many ways to do it, whether it’s slicing her throat or having the monsters eat her, this young girl will not stay dead. So it looks like Menou has two immortal targets to worry about as the season nears its conclusion.
Aside from Juliet Simmons’ ear-grating performance as the Human Error, the character does solid work pushing a couple of boundaries in the show’s violence and making me uncomfortable. She’s part of the reason why “The Daughter of a Lost One” marks an exciting beginning of Menou’s ultimate struggle, along with the short confrontation between the executioner and Manon. Hopefully, Menou will find a way to kill the Human Error before the season ends.
