English Dub Review: The Demon Girl Next Door “Sparks Fly?! Light and Dark Go on a Joint Excursion!”

Overview

Shamiko promises to visit the zoo with Momo and Mikan and tries making boxed lunches for them. She’ll need help to make something tasty, so Shamiko visits a certain address…

Our Take

After that very short, “summer vacation special“, we now get a sort-of Lico & Shirosawa-focused episode as they contributed to plenty of comedic and wacky moments, especially Lico. It’s impressive to see how cute she is one second, then how far she’ll go to add her ideas or tricks into the mix just to satisfy her curiosity. Still, she did great in helping Shamiko cook some nice food for the zoo trip with Momo and Mikan, along with Lico and Shriosawa as well.

As for Momo, I’m sure that she enjoyed having her share of fun, although Lico did get on her nerves. As she saw through Lico’s deception in a very clever way. It was also amusing to see Momo muttering Shamiko’s infamous “Don’t think this means you’ve won!” as she petted the transformed Lico after she missed out on something bit they originally planned which was another reason for how much Shamiko means to her. ^_^

This was quite a fun adventure. This show at its core somehow manages to turn really small things into a herculean task from the perspective of a teenage girl (supernatural or otherwise). So I shouldn’t be too surprised to see fun & wacky antics happen during the proceedings of a show that put so much focus on something as simple as making a bento. As for the Zoo subplot, we also learn Lico wants to connect with Momo on a friendly level, but given the underhanded shit she almost pulled, she clearly has a long way to go. As for the ending it left on an ominous cliffhanger that I’m curious if it’ll lead to anything, but at least most of this episode remained fun.
