English Dub Review: The Demon Girl Next Door “Pitch-Black Feelings!! Darkness Peach Returns!!”

Overview

Momo is stuck in her darkness form! Without the ability to control her strength, Momo unintentionally destroys whatever she touches…

Our Take

It’s rather strange, yet cute to see Momo transforming into her dark version and all because her picnic date with Shamiko in the “previous episode” didn’t go well. Not just that, but Shamiko was strangely fascinated with Momo’s outfit, from the side-ties sticking out and rubbing her hands all over Momo’s exposed midriff which I’m sure was meant to be funny but it felt creepy given that these are supposed to be underaged schoolgirls.

Ogura and even Lico also got more screentime as well and aside from Ogura flexing her stalking skills (which were mostly played for laughs), she did help Shamiko in helping Momo to go back to normal via the cooked food Shamiko made that she felt weren’t up to standard compared to the other Bento boxes she made. She also helped by pointing Momo and Shamiko to the location of a secret spring not just to help Momo connect back to the light side, but also for Ogura with her research…

Overall, I think this episode’s pacing and directing were somewhat random and weird. It’s chaotic and yet too contained. Three transformations in the same episode too! And even a weird intro that got nothing to do with the rest of the episode. I also would say the real treasure was their friendship and journey during the springs, but yeah it sucks when things didn’t completely go Shamiko’s way in the end. At the very least, stuff is actually happening and lots of it. While the first season felt like it should have been a short 15-minute episode at most, yet this time around this feels loaded with content and the sheer wacky randomness makes for a great viewing experience.
