English Dub Review: Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It r=1-sinθ “I Tried to Prove that You Are Fine Just as You Are.”

Overview:

After Kanade rejects his confession of love, Shikijou presses her for a reason, grabbing her arm and saying, “This isn’t normal. This isn’t like you.” Kanade throws him by reflex, then Shikijou flies into a rage and turns a stun gun on her! When Kanade slowly regains consciousness, she finds herself in a dimly lit abandoned warehouse where a group of delinquents is chatting and laughing. Kanade’s hands and feet are tied with rope, so she can’t move. Shikijou moves closer to her saying, “Kanade-san, you aren’t normal right now. We have to reform you.”

Our Take:

Normally this show is more of a slice of life but most of this episode was downright terrifying. I thought Kanade would be able to handle herself and to be fair she did Judo throw Shikijou but I guess that wasn’t enough. He used a stun gun and knocked her out, then it took a very dark turn. I felt like I was watching the wrong show for a minute. It also made me a bit uncomfortable with how often the term “assault” was getting thrown out.

The last bit of the episode was a bit more in line with the rest of the series. Kanade was happy that Yukimura came to her rescue and gathered data to prove that she was in fact “normal”. One twist I didn’t see coming was that Kanade is apparently in love with Yukimura. I don’t know how I feel about that but are we getting a season three anytime soon? I got to see how this all works out.
