English Dub Review: Parallel World Pharmacy “A Reincarnated Pharmacologist and a Parallel World”
Overview:
A medical research named Kanji Yakutani dedicates his life to creating new medicines. Unfortunately, he works himself to death. He gets reincarnated as a 10-year old member of a noble family: Farma de Médicis. He’s studying pharmacology and has to learn about his new identity, his new world, and his new powers.
Our Take:
It’s the age old story. An anime protagonist works themself to death and gets reincarnated as someone else in a fantasy world. At least this time, the protagonist in question was working on something admirable. Kanji Yakutani’s sister died at a young age due to an incurable disease, so he dedicated his life to creating new medicines. As admirable as this was, he still worked himself to death.
He gets reincarnated as Farma de Médicis, a 10-year old son of nobility who’s studying pharmacology. Farma was struck by lightning before this reincarnation, so the new Farma has to learn everything about this new world.
He learns that he has powers called the divine arts. He can conjure water, which he was told about. However, he also discovers that he can create elements and compounds as long as he knows their chemical structure.
When he goes to his lesson with his instructor, Ellen, she immediately realizes Farma isn’t his usual self. She teaches him about the divine arts, but is frightened when she sees how powerful his spell is and how easily he can cast it. Farma also has the power to see when someone has a medical problem. He notices that Ellen injured her finger without her making it obvious. Farma also doesn’t cast a shadow for some reason. These new developments frighten Ellen because it seems that farma has been granted godly powers.
I should have figured Farma would be overpowered, but I don’t hate that in this case. While he is overpowered, he can’t fully control his powers. Plus, it’s also not immediately accepted by other characters. In fact, his powers are feared by his instructor, which I really wasn’t expecting.
Speaking of other characters, I enjoyed what I’ve seen of Ellen, Farma, and the family’s maid: Lotte. None of these characters are anything new or special, but they’re still likable.
The premise itself is run of the mill too, but I’m still intrigued by it. At least the protagonist was reincarnated as someone who’s pursuing a similar goal. This makes it easy for me to get invested and eager to see Farma continue his research. I hope he can achieve what he wasn’t able to in his past life.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
