English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “What’s the Point of Getting Closer?”

Overview:

Desumi has a slumber party with some of the other princesses in order to include Judgment Princess more. Later, Desumi gets sick when she tries to go to Fudo’s book signing.

Our Take:

Desumi really is too nice to be a villain. In this episode, she notices that Judgment Princess is all by herself. She invites her and a few of the other princesses over for what she calls a “strategy meeting.” In reality, it’s just a slumber party. Regardless, Desumi’s plan works. Judgment Princess doesn’t really express it with her own face, but she’s happy to finally have friends.

In the second half of the episode, Desumi and Fudo are hiding in a snow fort during their mountain battle. Fudo tells Desumi his book got published and there will be a signing to commemorate this. Desumi promises to attend, but she ends up getting sick. The school nurse, also known as Gekko’s Blood Princess, treats her…by treating her like a baby and putting her down for a nap. She ends up missing Fudo’s signing, but he goes to check on her at the nurse’s office. He ends up signing her book there, so it all works out.

Honestly, this is the weakest episode of the series so far. It’s not bad, it’s actually still pretty solid. However, it just doesn’t deliver as much as the other episodes have.

The slumber party was fun and I liked getting introduced to Judgment Princess. The gag of her shapeshifting into Fudo was pretty funny, especially since most of the princesses are oblivious to their relationship. The other running gag in the episode is Heat Princess (Anna) always clinging to Desumi. I like Anna, but this just got old pretty quickly. As a whole though, this part of the episode is pretty enjoyable. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Judgment Princess in the future, as long as we get another season.

The second of the half episode…Well, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. I like the moments between Fudo and Desumi, as well as what we see of Beast Princess and Steel Princess. What I don’t care much for is Blood Princess and her healing methods. She treats her patients like babies and makes them call her “Mommy. The whole thing’s very uncomfortable. I know it’s meant to be funny and I see the humor in some ways, but I felt kind of gross watching it. I understand how others may find this hilarious, but this isn’t my particular brand of humor.

This episode is still above average, so it’s not a disappointment. There’s only one episode left in the season though, so I’m hoping the show ends on a strong note.
