English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “Eternal Rivals”

Overview:

Fudo agrees to do a commercial for a wedding planning company, which makes Desumi angry. Fudo tries to figure out a way to make it up to her. Meanwhile, Gekko summons its ultimate phantom.

Our Take:

Fudo is no stranger to doing commercials. However, since he’s doing one for a wedding planning company, that causes tension with Desumi. Fudo doesn’t see why she’s so mad about it, but Haru puts it into perspective for him. It would be crushing for Desumi to see him cut his first wedding cake with another woman. Fudo tries to get out of the commercial, but to no avail. Instead, Fudo plans to bake his own cake to cut with Desumi before they shoot the commercial.

Meanwhile, Gekko achieve their goal by summoning the ultimate phantom. Unfortunately, it looks and acts like a giant demon baby and wreaks havoc on Gekko’s hideout. It also eats people and absorbs their powers.

Desumi’s not responding to Fudo’s calls, so they don’t cut to get his homemade cake. Fudo’s about to bail from the commercial when the monster attacks and ruins his cake. The rest of Gelato 5 arrive and battle the beast. Some of Gekko’s princesses arrive to fight as well, but none of them are any match for it.

Gelato 5 combine their weapons into a giant sword, but Fudo is too injured to lift it. Desumi assists him and they cut the giant, now cake-shaped, monster together. Afterwards, the demon calls the two its parents and they have to keep up appearances for a surprise media appearance.

I loved this season finale. It was sweet, chaotic, and a fitting end to this chapter of Fudo’s and Desumi’s relationship. I love that the two got their chance to cut a wedding cake together and the setup for it was excellent.

I couldn’t be happier for them. Sure, they’re still in a forbidden relationship, but that’s not hindering them from showing each other how they truly feel. Plus, the actual battle with the giant monster was pretty awesome. It was obvious what was going to happen once the monster ate the wedding cake and took its form, but I was still invested.

This was a great sendoff for the first season and I truly hope there’s more to come. I want to see Desumi and Fudo take their relationship to the next level and there are still other characters that could be fleshed out a little more. Overall though, this finale is excellent and a high note to end on.
