English Dub Review: Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout “A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and Unparalleled Beauty”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
After being sent to another world, Tachibana and Jinguji spot a small settlement at the edge of a forest. However, unbeknownst to them, the settlement is under attack by bandits. Tachibana goes in to the village alone to gather information on the world, but Tachibana’s “Unparalleled Beauty” skill, which grants the ability to cause the status effect “Charmed”, instigates a falling out among the bandits.
Our Take:
I must admit that last week’s episode was something else. First, we were introduced to one of the most hilariously absurd concepts in the isekai genre: a guy being turned into a beautiful young girl. Additionally, we just learned that the world these two friends are in is an RPG, complete with skillsets and stats. While these traits have been done before in similar anime, the first episode made a solid impression with its humor and the characters’ chemistry. So now we see if this week’s chapter has enough experience to maintain the show’s momentum.
The first episode concluded with the two friends discovering they have stats and skills at their disposal, with Jinguji using his ability to make a door appear before them. This episode shows that the door actually leads to a replica of Tachibana’s house, which is a good place for them to recover. Although, the lack of food and television can be quite concerning for these two friends. However, that’s not the only problem they’re facing in this week’s episode.
The episode’s central focus is Tachibana’s newfound skill, which causes people to fall madly in love with her. Unfortunately, while it does come in handy against some dangerous bandits, it also serves as a disadvantage. Not only did it affect the ruffians but also Jinguji, making his mission to avoid falling for his best friend much more complicated than he thought. Thankfully, the two managed to defeat the bandits following a few hilarious mishaps. Unfortunately, this also led to them accidentally starting a forest fire, which may anger a certain elf chieftess.
This episode continues to bring out the comedy regarding the embarrassing scenarios and the characters’ energetic chemistry. The moment with Tachibana and Jinguji in Tachibana’s house was pretty funny in terms of how his lack of cleanliness and supplies represents Tachibana’s personality. However, the scenes that got the most laughs were Tachibana’s reactions to her new skill and Jinguji throwing people into the ground, including the villagers. There’s just something about these slapstick moments portrayed in anime form that I find both endearing and immensely comical. Whatever it is, I admittedly still enjoy seeing these two freak out at one another constantly during their quest to defeat the Demon Lord. It would be interesting to see if it can go three for three during next week’s chapter.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
