English Dub Review: Skeleton Knight in Another World: Allied! Dashing Through the Darkness With the Beastpeople!

In the last eight weeks, I’ve grown accustomed to a certain feeling, mostly because of Skeleton Knight…, and it’s kind of peculiar. I does not feel like the start to my weekend unless I hear this banger of a theme song. Now that I’ve gotten my weekly praise of my current favorite anime theme song, let’s see if the rest of “Allied! Dashing Through the Darkness With the Beastpeople!” lives up to what Skeleton Knight… has brought to the table so far.

I’m beginning to think that the infiltration of du Diento’s estate a few episodes back is a nexus event for Skeleton Knight…. Everything that’s happened since then has been a direct result of those events, and it was kicked off by Arc’s chance meeting of Chiyome, the ninja cat-girl. Go forward to this week, and that same ninja cat-girl in Olav.

And the suspect older brother of Princess Yuriarna has been confirmed to be trading both slaves and beast people, and is now in a full blown panic. We get a lot of the backstory with the slave trade, especially from the point of view from Chiyome, and her kin. We get the full plan, and all three get preparations. Watching the preparations begs this question: how the hell does Arc eat? The skeletion doesn’t have a tongue, so he shouldn’t be able to taste. He has no digestive tract, so he can’t actually digest. Then, obviously, he doesn’t have an ass, because a skeleton.

So, Goemon is a certified badass. He matched Arc for strength, and has some amazing powers. This dude gives Toph a run for her money for rock based attacks, and makes most of the…ninja from Naruto look like they’re playing at ninja in the playground.

There wasn’t much to talk about this week. “Allied! Dashing Through the Darkness With the Beastpeople!” is a transition episode to move the story along. It was, by no means, a bad episode at all. But there was not a lot of substance outside of the introduction of slave liberation phase 2, and of course Goemon. This man is just amazing. However, getting more from Chiyome was a nice touch.

Next week, I expect a lot more with action and exposition. We’re in the major slave market, about to tear down the entire slave economy, and there has to be comeuppance for Prince Sekt, and there’s something about Prince Dakares that doesn’t seem completely right. I guess I’m just expecting a bit of over-correctness when it comes to substance.
