English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “Desumi Magahara Is the Monster I Made”

Overview:

Daigo Todoroki, also known as Green Gelato, reveals that he is the one who taught Desumi karate. Now that they’ve met again after so many years, he wants her to join Gelato 5.

Our Take:

At the end of the last episode, I was expecting Daigo to recognize Desumi because she’s Reaper princess. Instead, he recognizes her because he’s known her since she was seven years old.

They used to practice karate at the same dojo. However, Desumi beat the sensei and he decided to close dojo afterwards. Daigo trained Desumi himself, but she always beat him. This caused him to flee and caused a lot of trauma.

Now that he’s seen her again after many years, he remembers all that trauma. Now that they’re in the same area again, he wants to recruit Desumi to join Gelato 5. If that were to happen though, Desumi and Fudou would have to break up because workplace relationships are forbidden.

Desumi turns down the offer and almost reveals that she’s working for Gekko, but Fudou covers up her mistake. Daigo pays no mind to this. Instead, he challenges Desumi to one more match. If Daigo wins, Desumi has to join Gelato 5. If Desumi wins, Daigo won’t try to recruit her again.

Unsurprisingly, Desumi defeats Daigo easily. Much like with the previous sparring matches, Desumi thinks Daigo is holding back. He plays along with it of course, but he actually is just no match for her.

After this over, Desumi says her and Fudou shouldn’t show public displays of affection anymore. She immediately breaks her own rule and tells Fudou to shake her off. Meanwhile, someone is taking pictures of the two from afar and we leave off there.

I like that this episode went in a direction I wasn’t expecting. It still has plenty of sweet and funny moments between the main couple and Daigo’s a fun character as well.

That being said, this episode feels a bit safe. It’s nice that we’re getting more of a look at Desumi’s backstory and another member of Gelato 5’s, but I want to see more progression of Desumi’s and Fudou’s relationship. It’s fine to take one episode off from big progression though, I suppose.
