Review: Amphibia “The Hardest Thing”

Overview

While Earth has been saved from Andrias’s invasion, the Core has one last trick up its sleeve, taking control of the Red Moon and trying to crash it into Amphibia.

To stop the Core’s final act of spite from destroying the world, Anne, Sasha and Marcy must now unlock their Calamity powers to their full potential – but such action may come at a heavy price…

Our Take

For this grand finale, The Core has completely snapped after their invasion was thwarted and they were forced to inhabit Darcy’s helmet to survive, being willing to wipe out all of Amphibia to spite the heroes for its loss, despite the fact it could’ve crawled away and survived unnoticed.

Also for a final episode, it gives off similar vibes to a 2022 Halle Berry film, called Moonfall, a movie that literally involved the moon having a potential collision course towards Earth. which I found strange, but even stranger is what the Moon actually is within this show’s universe that raises even more questions than answers, but what more than makes up for it is a massive epilogue that takes place 10 years later…

Overall, yhis big finale managed to deliver in spades with its story and characters, as this was one hell of a bittersweet way end to this great show. Every voice actor in the cast including Brenda Song, Whoopi Goldberg, and even Keith David all brought their A-game. As a whole, this show was fun with complex characters, a fun and sometimes compelling narrative, and important lessons that I think the show did a fairly good job handling, considering the network it’s on.
