English Dub Review: Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- “Too Late”

We’re still sniffing the line of harem / Isekai, but the harem ties are a lot less than the end of “Black Spider of Disaster” and the beginning of “Human Shock,” and it’s welcome. It gives way to, wait for it, actual plot development outside of populating a town Tomoe and Makato are trying to populate. For instance, they pick up a child who’s tied into a bandit clan, who is holding her sister hostage. The older sister looks strikingly similar to Makato’s friend Masako.

What seems rather different, and made me excited to watch this week, was that Makato was separated from Tomoe and Mio, so we get to see what he can do without two powerhouses behind him. Tomoe was used as a crutch during the first couple of episodes, and Mio will do the same. Mio and Tomoe came across the former highest ranking adventurer from the guild, so the story continues.

I’m glad that the plot is pushing along, because the harem side plot in the last two episodes really slowed down the story. I’m liking that there’s some action going on. Call me old, but I want actual substance. Big boobs and many women doesn’t matter to me anymore. I’m not in my teens. I want more action. More story. And “Too Late” definitely delivered. Speaking of, Tomoe punching these clowns definitely had “And we’re blasting off again!” vibes from Pokemon, and a weird snake tentacle hentai clip. It isn’t normal, but it was sure fun to watch.

This adventurer’s guild is a sham. Granted, Tomoe and Mio are two great warrior beasts, but god damn, they just leveled a city, and made both “Human Shock” and “Too Late” kind of side stories to what should be going on as of now. The end of the episode provided a wonderful piece of knowledge: if you’re going to screw up your orders, don’t produce spider silk and get yourself tied up in it. Otherwise, you’re going to get shot out of am overpowered bow and land who knows where.

These more concise plots are what makes ” Too Late” a lot easier to watch compared to earlier episodes from Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-. I’m hoping that this is the flow going foward, because this was a much easier episode to sit and watch. The separation of Makato and Tomoe/Mio made for a good deviation from the team, even though Makato did literally nothing. Compared to the last three episodes, this was a bonus, considering Makato beat himself stupid trying to beat Mio and Tomoe’s animal forms.

Let’s summarize for a bit. “Too Late” was a great episode. The storytelling was on point, and we got a great deviation with Makato taking more of a backseat, and Tomoe and Mio doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The unexpected will almost never be bad. “Too Late” proved it.
