English Dub Review: Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy – “Human Shock”

Tsukimichi had a great start, with a terrible follow up last week. I am trying hard to like this show, but the bouncing between Isekai and Harem anime is grating my nerves. I haven’t enjoyed either separately, and I am slowly discovering that I am hating them together. When the big part of the beginning is both women getting woman boners about getting new names from Makoto, and it’s ridiculous. Shin’s now Tomoe, and the spider woman is now named Mio. Let’s see how long it takes for these to stick before names become a sticking point.

What I am intrigued about is the break from “which demon woman will jump Makoto’s peen” and get into the villiage building. Seeing all of the races Tomoe and Makoto gathered, including the mist lizards, and Mio’s alke. After finally getting away from the village for a bit, we get some interaction with the other humans of the plane. However, back to the first episode, the Goddess’s curse finally came back up, and the humans attack Makoto. On the bright side, Makoto finally has a challenge, and he’s failing hard.

The more common interactions between the denizens of the village and Makoto is pretty cool, because you see the elder dwarves designing rings to suppress Makoto’s mana. After getting his mana under control, he was able to visit the village and get a lay of the land. He finds the adventurer’s guild, with Tomoe, Mio, and Makoto all getting their levels registered, with Mio getting over 1500, Tomoe hitting over 1300, and Makoto getting a crisp 1.

“Human Shock” was a pretty good world building episode. Not only was the close world of the settlement that Tomoe and Makoto stumbled into building starting to prosper, but Makoto made strides to connect with the other humans in the town close by. “Human Shock” is…different, and that’s what I asked for. Was it something that I was expecting? Not even a little, yet it made me want to watch next week, especially with the ending that we got.

Like I said in the beginning of this review, I really want to like Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy. But there is entirely way too much crap that just doesn’t vibe with me. The Harem anime feel started to come off towards the end of “Human Shock,” which was a great feeling. If we can get more worldbuilding, and more of the interaction between Makoto and the humans of this world, I would be a happy man. The focus shifting from Makoto getting as many women on his balls made the episode flow a lot better, and didn’t make me feel like Tsukimichi was sliding close to just becoming hentai.
