English Dub Review: Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs “My First School Festival”

Overview:

Leon runs a maid café at the school festival. This proves to be a difficult task since he’s the most hated person at the academy.

Our Take:

It’s not easy being hated by just about everybody, as Leon quickly finds out. He runs a maid café at the school festival, but he has to deal with a lot of nonsense.

For one thing, Julius and his friends opened up their own “café” next door. Their prices are outrageous, but given the appeal that group has, that’s not an issue for the other students.

If that’s not bad enough, the customers Leon does get are incredibly rude. Granted, Leon takes the abuse he receives so as not to start a scene. Well, that is until Julius’ mother, Queen Mylene enters. She originally plans to cause a scene at Leon’s café herself, but that quickly changes when she watches one unfold right in front of her.

Leon goes crazy and beats the crap out of a bunch of servants. The only one who can calm him down is the man who taught him etiquette: Lucas.

Afterwards, the queen scolds Leon on his behavior at the duel. She also wants to create memories at the festival, which leads to Leon proposing to her. Julius comes in and breaks that up pretty quickly. The queen then calls Julius out for his hypocritical behavior. Finally, a girl named Carla Fou Wayne comes to Leon’s café and says that her family needs Leon’s help.

I’ll get this out of the way right now. This is my favorite episode of the show so far. There are so many hilarious and entertaining interactions between characters. Not to mention, Leon continues to be a treat. His facial expressions, his mannerisms, his attitude, and of course, so many of the lines he delivers in this dub are all pure gold.

There’s also one point in the episode where one of Leon’s rude customers, Stephanie, attempts to create tension between Olivia and Angelica. She brings up something Angelica said about commoners in the past, but it’s dropped almost immediately. That being said, I’m curious if this will create a divide between the two moving forward.

I also immediately fell in love with Queen Mylene. I like that she was planning on doing something petty, but completely changed her mind because she really likes and respects Leon. She may not condone his behavior, but it’s obvious she has a soft spot for him. Plus, she is also brutally honest with her son. That’s great because that fool needs to be knocked down a few pegs.

Overall, this is a great episode. I honestly didn’t think this show would produce an episode that I would enjoy this much. I’m glad I was proven wrong and I hope there are more episodes this strong to come.
