English Dub Review: Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs “Mind If I Go Easy on You?”
Overview:
Leon heads into his duel with Prince Julius and his crew. He battles his four friends individually and defeats them with little trouble.
Our Take:
Overpowered protagonists are played out and can make an anime boring. However, when this trope is executed in a different way, it can actually be intriguing.
Leon’s armor is laughed at and mocked because it is old, bulky, and obsolete. However, Leon remains confident that his armor is better than his opponents’.
Sure enough, he defeats all of Julius’ friends quite handily. He doesn’t even use a real weapon. He defeats them by using a shovel. Of course, his armor also has some attachments that come in handy. For example, he uses projectiles is one of his matches.
His A.I. assistant, Luxion, helps him out a lot too. Luxion gives Leon a strategic advantage and also surveys the armor for damages. That especially comes in handy when Jilk plants explosives on Leon’s armor in an attempt to defeat him. Leon’s sister, Jenna, is involved with this scheme too. I’m still not seeing any reason to care for her, but she only plays a minor role here.
The main reason Leon wins his fights so easily is because he’s went through them so many times in the game. He knows what their strong and weak points are, so he knows exactly how to beat them.
I also really like his attitude in this episode. He’s been smug in past episodes, but he takes it up a notch here. Sure, he crosses the line a few times, but he’s standing out as my favorite character in the series by far. He has the most personality out of anyone else.
One other moment of note is when Marie is having an inner monologue. She says that she found the prince’s friends to be weak in the game, so she had her brother beat them for her. Since this is Leon’s story as well, I find that to be quite the coincidence.
As a whole, this is the strongest episode of the series up to this point. The mech fights seemed out of place at first, but I actually think they’re very fun. I’m looking forward to seeing Leon’s battle with Julius in the next episode. I hope the mechs get incorporated into the show even more because they’ve been the best part of the show for me. Well, that and Leon’s quick wit and delightfully spunky attitude. I definitely want to see more of that as well.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
