English Dub Review: The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made “Before I Knew It, I Was Living in Another World”
Overview:
A high school class gets transported to another world as heroes. Seiichi Hiiragi ends up getting transported to a separate location alone, but given an extra skill. He fights to survive, levels up, and fights a lovestruck gorilla.
Our Take:
This is yet another isekai anime that follows yet another average high school student. Seiichi Hiiragi is an overweight boy who gets bullied by his classmates. When a “god” announces that the students will be transported to another world, nobody wants to team up with Seiichi. Therefore, he ends up getting transported alone. It’s not all bad because he gets an extra skill.
When he arrives in the new world, he has to find his own food and supplies. He mostly survives on fruit that is called “Fruit of Evolution.” His stats drastically increase as he continuously eats these fruits. His physical appearance changes as well when he evolves, causing him to become skinny. Although, the process is very painful.
Hiiragi has to fend off against all sorts of creatures. He mainly defeats them due to his skillset, high stats, and not doing much else. He has to fight a lovestruck gorilla named Saria. This is where we see that his combat and magic skills are terrible. His powerful body odor wins most fights, but it just makes him more attractive to Saria. She runs off with him and that’s how the episode ends.
I should also mention that it starts with a naked girl telling Seiichi she loves him before we see how we get to this point. It’s not specifically explained where she comes from in this episode, but it’s heavily implied.
Honestly, I find the whole overpowered bland protagonist trope to be very boring. If the character has some interesting traits or an intriguing personality, it’s more tolerable. In this episode, I don’t see that with Seiichi. So far, he doesn’t stand out from any other character of this type.
I am curious to see what the explanation will be for the students being transported. Exploring the new world more should be fun as well. Other than that though, I wasn’t too impressed with this episode. Everything about it strikes me as average. Who knows? Maybe it will grow on me as I continue on this journey through the new world.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
