English Dub Review: Lupin III Part VI “Adventure Along the (Bogus) Transcontinental Railroad”
Overview
Lupin’s after a historic railway ticket in the possession of Duke Marquis, and it’ll take teamwork to bring home the prize, but a certain butler wants to get in the way.
Our Take
Well, as expected, this episode was not connected to the main story. That being said, while it wasn’t as gripping as the first two episodes, it was a lot of fun and brought back the usual zaniness you’d come to expect from the show itself. As for the “double-mask” scene when Zenigata found Goemon and Jigen, I don’t blame Zenigata for being fooled by masks. He’s been tricked by masks in every fashion you can count. From gluing masks onto civilians to throw him off the trail to switching appearances and personalities just to throw him off.
At some point, it becomes beyond blatant for the audience for the big twist to be seen from a mile away, but I also figured that Lupin and his crew would actually put more effort into their disguises. But as usual, I think it’s more impressive how Zenigata somehow always finds his way over to the gang anyway, depending on who is writing the episode. Hopefully, we get a Zenigata/Holmes team-up story to show off their deductive skills together in later episodes, but I doubt that’ll be anytime soon…
Overall, this was a decent filler episode that doesn’t follow the mainline story involving Sherlock Holmes. But at the very least, it had some funny moments that left me entertained. There were characters unrelated to our main leads, but they all served a singular purpose and helped the plot move forward. Only time will tell if we’ll get back to Sherlock/Emily plot as the whole “Raven” storyline seems compelling enough to continue.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
