English Dub Review: Love of Kill “MY NAME”
Overview
Two “Ryang-Has” survive desperately with a young Chateau. But Ryang-Ha is cornered by his enemies, and the other Ryang-Ha, too, is severely injured…
Our Take
Filling in the last few gaps of Ryang-Ha and Chateau’s inter-connected Backstory was kinda interesting. But still, them dragging that up until the last two episodes might be the reason why it was hard for me to stay focused due to the contrived ways it was held back for the audience until now. You could make the argument that the Ryang-Ha that Chateau accidentally shot had a whole day and could’ve visited a hospital but he knew the bullet wound would’ve gotten the cops involved so he just accepted his fate and tried to grant a father’s final wish to protect his daughter. We still don’t know too much about the Ryang we’ve been following’s backstory though, just that he kept different names and was almost kidnapped by mobsters who wanted to harvest his organs for the black market.
I’m not sure if this was supposed to be intentional by the author but there is not much given for me to want to support a romantic relationship between these two (it did feel quite toxic at times), but they both have their reasons in the story which do make it a little more tolerable. I feel like the series needed to be a few episodes longer to at least wrap up the current storyline, but I’m guessing from the production quality we saw there wasn’t enough budget to make that possible which is kind of a shame because this could have potential for something bigger…
Overall, this was a good wrap-up to this series though a bit anti-climatic for those who wished for some big action-fueled ending of sorts. At least they revealed their past so I am satisfied with that yet all of it really felt rushed. Still, I was at least hoping for Chateau to figure out what sort of “compensation” Ryang-Ha wanted out of her to give a bit more resolution to their relationship. But much like half the male characters in Black Clover, she stays dense when it comes to romantic reciprocation even in the finale.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
