English Dub Review: In the Land of Leadale “Relocating, Building, Flying, and the Earth”

Overview

The day after the banquet, Cayna yet again awakens to a hangover. She ends up inheriting the land where the house of the pioneer of the village once stood. Cayna uses magic to start building her house and immediately, Cayna and Luca’s new house is complete. Luca stares in utter shock and Cayna reaches out her hand. Their new life together is about to begin.

Our Take

Surprisingly for a final episode, this was very self-contained despite the Light Novels this show was based on currently ongoing which could leave room for potential future storylines. There were some standout scenes however that made this mildly entertaining such as when Cayna was building her new home, I couldn’t help but think that’s how it’s structured like something out of “The Sims” or something. I feel as though this show never pretended to be anything other than it was and it went with the whole “overpowered protagonist” trope. Although if it were more realistic the kid that was adopted would have some level of PTSD and emotional issues. It’s like she totally forgot about the life she had before having to survive the Zombie massacre of her village before her current situation and put focus on her mostly doing wholesome kid stuff.

Cayna at her core wasn’t a perfect protagonist as parts of her personality were all over the place. And after establishing that a good portion of the life she lived before being transported onto the new Leadale world where she was mostly hospitalized, she tried to be a better person by adopting a kid and fulfilling a promise, while also trying hard to not lose against booze and suppress her mood swings, or even beating up her older child, especially Skargo which was mostly played for laughs. Though with how she treated her older kids vs how she is treating her new kid. Although it does kind of make sense since when she entered Leadale the others were grown-up (and she still remembers them as NPCs from the game) and this is kind of like starting more from scratch.

Overall, this was a nice way to wrap things up. Part of me is gonna miss this show’s laid-back atmosphere, yet this wasn’t a life-changing anime but I don’t think it was supposed to be, as it had some comedic moments here and there. However, I can see how a lot of people will go on to forget this anime as it had very low stakes and not a lot to remember it by as there’s little to no conflict, and feels a bit misleading since the Intro sort of teased a major antagonist which would’ve made things interesting…
