English Dub Review: Attack on Titan “Ilse’s Notebook: Memoirs of a Scout Regiment Member”

Overview:

Hange is insistent on capturing a Titan for the advancement of scientific research, but Erwin is adamant in his refusal to allow it. Will an unexpected discovery during an expedition beyond the walls alter the situation?

Our Take:

I am always down for more Attack on Titan and I am pretty sure these OAD’s are canon and will shed some light on some more of the characters. This one for instance showed a Scout’s first instance of communicating with a Titan, and I am pretty sure it’s the first time we hear the phrase “Subject of Ymir” which as we know now is a pretty big deal.

What made this OAD special was how we got to see Studio Wit’s animation again. Not only that but we got to hear the voices of some dearly departed characters. Do you know how great it was to hear J. Michael Tatum’s voice as Erwin again? He made one of the best speeches in anime history and it still gives me goosebumps.

Apparently, we are getting one of these a week and I believe there are eight of them. There is one with Mikasa that I am looking forward to in particular. Are these going to add to the overarching story? No, I don’t think so but we will get to spend time with characters we loved that are now gone and learn some new things about some that are still living. If you love Attack on Titan as much as I do I don’t think you’ll want to miss these.
