English Dub Review: Tomodachi Game “Huh? Yuichi-kun Suspects His Friends?”
Overview:
After the hard-earned funds for their expensive high school class trip are stolen, sophomore Yuichi and his four best friends are kidnapped by Manabu, a surreal character from a creepy late-night anime show. The mischievous Manabu challenges the students to a series of mind games that the five must decipher and outwit in order to win back their trip funds, uncover the thief, and pay off a huge and mysterious debt.
Our Take:
Anime and manga have a big fascination with survival games. I always think I am done with them but then a new one comes out and they suck me back in. Whether it’s an anime like Future Diary, Alice in Borderland, or High-Rise Invasion they all have big stakes with lives on the line.
Tomodachi Game is the newest one of these shows and this time it’s about testing friendship. How well do you know your best friends? Can you really trust them to care about you over themselves? I think that’s what this show is looking to explore and so far I think it could be interesting. The characters have just enough mystery to them that we question them. Yuichi made the typical “My mind has snapped” face right at the end so I am definitely looking forward to the next one. Survival game anime have been some of my favorites but one of the anime that I think is the worst was also in this genre so we will see where Tomodachi Game lands.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
