English Dub Review: Platinum End: “The Price of Honor”

Overview: With Yuito (Zeno Robinson) being shot and killed by a sniper, he is carried away by Yoneda (David Vincent) with Nakuami (A.J. Beckles) alongside him. Mirai (Alejandro Saab), Saki (Laura Post) and Temari (Christina Vee) escape from authorities as well to retreat and decide what their next move is.

Our Take: Hiding in a remote, rundown shack, Yoneda fires a red arrow at Nakaumi to eliminate any possibility of his betrayal, because of his dogged love and loyalty to him. This just continues to highlight how much of a smart cookie Yoneda is, showing how clever he is and how much foresight he has in regards to his survival.

Yoneda calls Mirai and the gang, agreeing to meet once the world has given a response. While brief, we get a deeper dive into Temari and how relatable she is in showing the insecurities she has about herself and how that drives her desire to keep her red arrow no matter who becomes God or what happens. Also her run-ins with people like Yoneda who always think they are right no matter what shows how jaded she has become with arrogant people like that.

Hoshi also comes back into the fold with him having shared a past with that of Yoneda in high school, fleshing out more of the antagonistic professor. Even back then, he was never a people person with him not agreeing to be Hoshi’s friend due to him knowing he would drop out of high school because of his adverse attitude towards everyday activities and encounters with people. An attitude which did not change even as his renown grew. It became so bad that Yoneda was on the brink of killing himself before his angel appeared. Meeting his angel, Muni, ignited his passion to uncover and spread the word of the truth about what happens after death for a better future.

Yoneda makes a deal with Ogaro, Nakaumi’s angel of death. In exchange for Nakaumi to live, Yoneda wants to know what angel has special abilities. This feels like a character contradiction considering Yoneda supposedly does not want to bother other people. Call me crazy, but threatening someone’s life for the sake of one’s self-serving nature would be more than a little bothersome, no? Ogaro agrees to Yoneda’s terms in exchange for Yuito’s white arrow given to Nakuami, creating mystery and intrigue as to how her plans will take form for Mirai and/or Nakaumi, especially considering Nakaumi is under Yoneda’s control due to being shot with a red arrow. Unbeknownst to her, the angel with mystery powers is Nasse, Mirai’s angel, who can physically interact with people and objects of the human world, which has endless potential and changes the landscape of the God choosing process as a result.

Yoneda, asks one of the government bigwigs he knows to call for a public God candidates meeting. Mirai and Saki ponder their potentially precarious fate in all candidates dying one by one in a distressing issue that warrants worry, with Temari against Yoneda as a whole.
