English Dub Review: Miss Kuroitsu from the Monster Development Department “The Sacrifice Willingly Attending the Banquet of Evil Gods Must Either Be Eaten and Accept Their Role as Sacrifice or Devour the Evil Gods and So Become One”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kuroitsu tags along on a retreat for Agastia executives to learn more about what makes them tick. But while the team enjoys their hot springs resort trip, an unexpected enemy seeks to take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere!
Our Take:
We are almost at the end of this charmingly villainous series. I wouldn’t take it as a sigh of relief since it still offers some enjoyable moments throughout the season. However, I wouldn’t be quick to call it a perfect product. For the final two episodes, Miss Kuroitsu would have to give everything it’s got to finish its first season on a good note, starting with Agastia’s retreat.
The episode sees the executives, plus Kuroitsu and Wolf Bete, on a relaxing vacation. While Kuroitsu studies the executives so she can become one herself, Wolf Bete gets caught in an intimate situation with Skylla, an executive who’s highly affectionate over Bete. Unfortunately, their relaxation was almost ruined by the “Assassin Rangers”, a lesser-known group of superheroes that attempt and fail to destroy the Agastia executives.
This second-to-last chapter of the season managed to become an improvement over the previous two episodes, mainly due to having an exciting plot that’s worthy of my time. The storyline introduces more of Agastia’s executives while providing a good source of comedy to warrant their welcoming appearances. For example, Salamander is a hot-and-cold lizard-like creature who is constantly treated as a small toy. More importantly, he despises being cuddled by anyone, especially Kuroitsu. That alone got plenty of chuckles out of me, along with the intimate moments involving Wolf Bete and Skylla. The Assassin Rangers and their attempts to “assassinate” the characters were also charmingly goofy, mainly because they suck at their jobs and are quickly defeated by the giant dragon executive Fafnir.
I would’ve been quick to declare it as another filler episode when the credits roll, but then the ending happens. Do you remember Karen Mizuki from the previous episodes? Well, she’s back in this one, but with another job at a different evil organization. To my surprise, she, along with her supervisor Heiki, is assigned as the new executive of Agastia after helping Akashic with her online game. After watching Mizuki work as a minion in her pointless segments, I’m glad to finally see that she cross paths with Agastia, which suitably sets the stage for next week’s finale.
Overall, the episode is a lovely retreat that works well with its humor and plot. The segment involving the Assassin Rangers and the executives hanging out was more enjoyable than it had any right to be. More importantly, it effectively sets the show up for a conclusion that sees Mizuki in another troubling situation with the forces of evil. Something tells me that we will be in a devious treat next week.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
