English Dub Review: Miss Kuroitsu from the Monster Development Department “The Rotting but Heroic Figures of Ancient Souls of the Dead that Congregate in the Abyss Find a Ray of Hope in the Darkness from Pride Pulled from Another Time”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kuroitsu comes up with a new plan: to defeat Blader in underwater combat! Through various traditional beach games, Kuroitsu will test the aquatic potential of her monsters!
Our Take:
It may not be summer yet, but that doesn’t stop Agastia from having some early fun in the sun. In this latest adventure, the Monster Development Department takes a trip to the beach, but only for training purposes. Later on, we see Kuroitsu discovering a shocking surprise when visiting a new pub.
For the first half of the episode, the plot only consists of Lord Akashic taking Kuroitsu and the crew to the beach. Along with Camula and her monster Aracane, the department and their monsters enjoy their time participating in water activities while Kuroitsu studies the monsters’ abilities on the water. Much of the humor consists of Wolf Bete and Cannon Thunderbird competing against each other, Bete wearing a woman’s swimsuit uncomfortably, and Akashic splitting the sea like how Moses parted the Red Sea. All I can say about this one is that it’s as relaxing as an actual day at the beach. While it didn’t provide any substantial stakes, aside from rescuing Cannon from drowning, it’s still another suitable mini-adventure that’s both humorous and fun.
The second half involves Kuroitsu discovering that the new pub is actually the place for retired superheroes and supervillains to talk about their glory days. We then spend the rest of the episode listening to some of their past experiences, leading to the bartender becoming a Magical Girl to stop a fight. I did find it interesting that the show expanded the roster to include retiring heroes and villains. Other than that, however, it’s nothing but a piece of filler that’s somehow more boring than a beach trip. The bland execution of its scenario makes this segment the weakest part of the series.
Overall, the ninth episode of Miss Kuroitsu offers a fun day underneath the summer sun. Despite an amusing mini-adventure at the beach, it is, unfortunately, the show’s low point due to its second half. I wouldn’t say that it’s terrible, but it does make me want to go back to hanging out with the team at the beach.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
