English Dub Review: In the Land of Leadale “A Butler, a Ghost Ship, a Ward, and the Palace of the Dragon King; An Introduction, a Carriage, a Maid, and Moving ”

Overview

“A Butler, a Ghost Ship, a Ward, and the Palace of the Dragon King”

A misty fishing village was being overrun by zombies. While there, she is reunited with Quolkeh, whom she first met at the Adventurer’s Guild in Helshper. Quolkeh tells her that they and their comrades hadn’t been able to leave this fishing village surrounded by fog. Quolkeh then leads Cayna to their base that’s underneath a storehouse. Cayna then sees Exis who was protecting the one and only girl from the village who had survived…

“An Introduction, a Carriage, a Maid, and Moving”

Cayna introduces Luca, who she had just adopted, to her other children. Mai-Mai, Skargo, and Kartatz have their own ways of showing their joy, but they all welcome Luca into their family with open arms. Cayna begins preparations to move so she and Luca can live together, but then Elineh asks her to stop by his shop. Leaving Luca at the inn, Cayna goes to Elineh’s shop, but she is in utter shock at how luxurious this shop actually was.

Our Take

For the first episode, it was sort of a zombie-themed story as Cayna is accompanied by adventurers and proceeds to do an investigation by checking the towers and asking about the past, but not like she really wants to go back to Earth, where she was stuck in a hospital bed. She is probably much happier in the new world, right? She later finds the source, but in the aftermath, it looks like Cayna has a new daughter now who seemed to be the only survivor of that village named Luca.

As for the 2nd episode, much of it was focused on helping Luca adjust to her new life with Cayna, as it’s the least she can do in helping her after everything that’s happened. She even instantly becomes friends with the servant-maid Lytt. It’s also hinted at something else about Luca that I don’t know if they’ll touch upon but she may be more than just an NPC within this gaming world given something she reacts to around Cayna…

Overall, both episodes were mostly connected through the introduction of the new character “Luca” with her now being adopted under Chyna’s care and even manages to introduce two new characters who are basically cat people dressed as servants but it’s played for laughs the two rarely get along. But with one episode left, I wonder if this will lead anywhere since the Intro keeps teasing a possible antagonist of sorts yet nothing’s been properly built up to make his presence fully known, but I hope the last episode willfully touches upon this.
